Representing Estonia, the candidates for this prestigious award are author Andrus Kivir\u00e4hk, illustrator Marja-Liisa Plats, and author-illustrator Piret Raud.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year, the highly esteemed international children\u2019s and youth literature award has a total of 265 nominees from 72 countries and regions, with 81 of them being first-time nominees. The list includes authors, illustrators, storytellers, and reading promoters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 100 organizations worldwide, including the Estonian Writers\u2019 Union and the Estonian section of IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People), submitted candidates for the award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, one of the world\u2019s most significant recognitions in children\u2019s and youth literature, was established by the Swedish government in 2002 to ensure that all children have access to good stories. The award is granted either for a lifetime contribution or for a significant effort to promote reading culture among young people.
